Military Muscle Gym will be hosting a nutrition seminar given by world champion kickboxer and former world champion boxer, Chris Algieri. The event will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Military Muscle Gym located in Davie, Florida (7250 Griffin Road, Davie, FL 33314). Subject matter to be covered will include the following:
- Basic Nutrition Principles; macronutrients, micronutrients, calories, etc.
- Goal orientation as it relates to nutrition programming
- Nutrient Timing; hormonal responses, the “anabolic window,” etc.
- Carbohydrate/Protein Ratios
- Hydration; its value in performance, aesthetics, and daily function
- Fad Diets; the good, the bad, and the ugly (paleo, ketogenic, etc.)
- Fasted vs. Fed State; optimizing training sessions, intermittent fasting, etc.
- Fight Camp Nutrition Programming;
o Variations in training & nutrition implications
o Phases of training; athletic phase, sport specific phase, fight specific phase, taper week/phase
o Water loading/cutting
o Hormonal responses & body’s reaction
Chris graduated from Stony Brook University with Honors in May, 2007 with a B.S. in Health Care Management and then went on to earn his Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition from the New York Institute of Technology. He is a certified Sports Nutritionist via the International Society of Sports Nutrition (CISSN) and frequently speaks at sports performance conferences, seminars and summits on various subjects relative to human performance and nutrition.
Chris has over 13 years of professional fight experience and has been featured on HBO PPV, HBO Boxing After Dark, NBC Primetime, Showtime EXTREME, PBC on Spike, ESPN Friday Night Fights, and NBC Sports. His titles include Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Jr. Welterweight Boxing Champion, ISKA World Welterweight Kickboxing Champion and WKA World Super Welterweight Kickboxing Champion. Following Ring Magazine’s Upset of 2014, during which Chris defeated defending champion Ruslan Provodnikov at the Barclay’s Center, he moved up in weight to fight the future Hall of Famer, Manny Pacquiao, in Macao China on HBO Pay Per View. He lost the decision to the Philippino Great, but earned great respect in defeat. The world tour that preceded the build up to the fight saw seven countries and exposed Chris to fans from all over the world.
